A lightbulb moment
Back in 2006 Brandon was living in London with his wife Caroline and their children. For their eldest’s third birthday they bought her a Mini Micro and were immediately impressed by the quality of the scooter, and the joy with which she took to scooting.
A month later they shared a clear but cold Christmas day with friends. Says Brandon:
Every journey begins with a single step
Brandon made contact with Wim at Micro in Switzerland. Over a series of conversations a pact of mutual respect was created, and when Brandon returned to New Zealand in 2007 he came with an agreement from Micro Scooters that he and Jeremy could launch the brand into Australia and New Zealand.
As with the best successful start-up stories around, their first office was literally a garden shed.
Things take off...
Jeremy was still working full time, but he quickly realised the fantastic potential for Micro scooters here. With two shipping containers full of scooters due to arrive, one in Australia and one in New Zealand, he hit the road with some samples and started building up a client base as quickly as he could. Soon Micro Scooters over took his day job, and he loved it.
In those first years Jeremy travelled back and forth across the Tasman dozens of times, forging strong relationships with retailers and laying the foundations for a sustainable and respected business.
... and go from strength to strength
Their head office today is still only a few kilometres away from the garden shed where it all started. But a few things have changed, there are now 8 employees, a public retail website, over 300 retailers and tens of thousands of happy customers. As Jeremy says:
Jeremy has a passion for excellence that can be seen in every aspect of Micro Scooters Australia, from the product right through to team outings and everything in between.
A shark in the bowling alley and a runner of half marathons; Jeremy works hard and plays hard.
Brandon lived in London for 15 years before bringing Micro scooters to Australia.
He brought his family back home for the relaxing and sporty lifestyle and proximity to all the amazing beaches and nature the country has to offer. And they're loving it.
Jason manages the team with a relaxed style. Herding cats it isn't, but we know we offer him challenges that will only help him grow.
Triathalons and surfing his sports of choice and he regularly commutes to work by bike... It's a 30km commute - so we let him leave the scooter at home for that one.
When in doubt, ask Natasha. Although we're sure she must get sick of being the Google of Micro HQ, she never shows it. Natasha was the very first Micro employee, and over the years she has accumulated an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Micro. When common sense is called for, she's our gal.
In her spare time you'll find Natasha hiking, paddle boarding or hanging out at the beach.
When he's not travelling across Australia visiting Micro stockists Frank's hard out at the gym, lying on the beach or making the most of Melbourne nightlife.
Frank's right into fitness and the outdoors so working with Micro scooters suits him down to the ground. A free spirit who loves travelling (which is lucky since he's constantly on the road), Frank wants to see as much of the world as humanly possible.
After 20 years and two kids in London, Hannah came back home to give her kids an antipodean childhood, There's nothing she likes more than hanging out with her kids, scooter racing around the park. Sadly these days they beat her more than she beats them. But it's not whether you win or lose ;)
A Micro fan since way back, Hannah loves working with a brand she believes in 100%.
Hannah manages Micro social media and writes awesome content for our website among many other things. She loves going on adventures and getting out of the city with friends and family, taking her camera with her wherever she goes.
Rob's originally from the UK, but a couple of years ago he decided it was time to travel the world. He packed his bags, jumped on a plane and hasn't looked back since.
After ending up on the other side of the world, he found his calling in customer service. Helping people is what he knows and enjoys doing so if you have any issues, let him know and he'll try and resolve it.
Originally from Ireland, Tony arrived Downunder two years ago looking for a bit more excitement that what was to be had back home. He's found it here at Micro accounts, lol.
His favourite part of the job is Friday night drinks - which set him up nicely for weekends playing Gaelic Football, trail running and any other extreme physical activity he can lay his hands on.
After living and working in The Netherlands and Ukraine, Maree came home, had three children and took up the reins of Micro finance.
With a lifelong love of travel, she has ticked off the Great Wall of China this year. Maree is also our resident sports expert, having studied every weekend, rain or shine, at the University of Parents on the Sidelines for many years.
